Summer update spectacular!!!

Yes, the site you all thought was dead to the world lives again! I just fooled you all by not bothering my arse to update it :P

Anyway, put the tea on, I have stories.... but first here are some remixes I done over the last few months:

Ludacris - Stand Up (m3 remix) - after hearing the excellent FakeID remix of this fun track, I wanted to do something with it myself. Not 100% happy with the quality of the recording - guitars are a bit '8-bit', but see what you think.

Pet Shop Boys - Home & Dry (m3 remix) - Now this one I am rather happy with. Hadn't heard the original in ages, then got hold of the pella and made it into this wistful, country kinda tune. Intro bit was actually recorded after the tune, cause I wanted to build it up a bit, all majestic like :)

VectorWarrior vs New Order - Crystal - The instrumental of this is the rather chilled & ambi-riffic work of GYBO's own resident Darkness-lookie-likey, VectorWarrior, to which I have added the deadpan vocal of New Order's comeback single, Crystal. Kinda eerie how good the fit is, considering he called his track Crystal too :O

-----------------------------

Recent times also saw the creation of the first two full album mashups done on the board, with an all-star GYBO cast of literally TENS of talented 'leggers. For London Booted I contributed a straight acoustic cover of 'Hateful', and had a few minor roles in the Parkspliced project, lending vocals and guitar to the Pop Razors' reworking of 'Far Out', and guitar and keys to Dunproofin's excellent boot of This Is A Low with Nas & Kelis - Popular Thug. Click da pics to visit the sites and download the whole albums (Parkspliced even has a bonus CD's worth of B-side mashups), but please remember to donate to one of the most worthy causes.

Oh, and here's a cheeky spide-tastic remix of Work It I put out under the name Blaster (secret identities are fun kids!) Fooled a few people maybe...

Missy Elliot - Work It (Blaster remix)

Check out my other site for a new acoustic cover of lost '90s synth pop hit Your Woman - with a few '80s classix reworked to follow...

Finally, I am looking towards getting a bootleg / mashup / remix / whatever nite started right here in Belfast, in conjunction with Eddie Mullan, formerly main DJ on QUB student radio. On the off chance anyone of consequence is reading this and would be interested in making this happen, or even if you're a Belfaster and think it's a good idea, drop me a line.

Catch y'all later on down the trail

10/05 / 04

OK the IBPW3 set is down for now, and everything else is back up. Just back from an interview on local student radio - if you were listening in I hope you liked what you heard and I hope I didn't ramble on too much :P If you weren't, shame on you, but it'll be up on the QUB radio site soon enough.

If you haven't got the irrepressible Lionel Vinyl's superchunk yet, scoot on over to boomselection and download 30 mins of mixed goodness that'll have you jivin' or your money back. Also if you haven't heard London Booted - where have you been?!

The next International Bastard is pencilled in for the weekend of July 17th - all info on the site as per. Should be in attendence and if the last three was anything to go by, it'll be a party I won't soon forget.

That's all 4 now, a few trax in development but they're not quite ready yet - stay tuned bootfans!

01/04 / 04

m3 @ International Bastard Pop Weekender... 3!!!

Click on that bad boy there to download my 30min set for the weekend that was IBPW3 - organized by the none-more-funky Deep Disco Force, it was the best one yet and a superlative time was had by all.

Check out the now back in action CultureDeluxe to download some more of the awesome sets played out at this stonker of an event. To save my bandwidth this month, all the other boots / remixes will be offline this month, though if you really want something drop me a line & I'll see what I can do.

Also keep an eye out for the forthcoming 'London Booted' extravaganza, to which I'm contributing a track. Until then enjoy the set and hang loose...

- Steve m3

11/01 / 04

Hello folks... see, I told you I wouldn't leave it for another 4 months :P

First remix of the new year is my take on a track many voted on as being the best single of last year:

.......................................Beyonce - Crazy In Love (m3 remix)....................

In other news, the International Bastard website is now up and running, with details on all mashup related events up and down this land, blogs, photos, and of course all information about the newly formed International Bastard Records. The next IB Weekender is penciled in for mid-March, and all things being cool I should be in attendance.

04/01 / 04

...And we're back!

OK, I haven't updated in a while, so sue me! It's been a weird couple of months - I had a job, moved house, lost my job, and I've just got another one in the same building... that and I couldn't be bothered, really... :P

Anyway, here are a few boot/music related nuggets for you to drink in until the next time I bring this page up, which I will try and do more frequently. New Year's resolutions eh?

Having done nothing in ages, I recently did a remix of Kylie - Slow if you'd care to listen. The glitch wunderkind Poj Masta also has a killer remix of said track up on his site - collect them all!!!

Big thanks going out to Magic Cornflake over at oorsmeer for listing my remix of Can't Hold Us Down at # 7 in his Top 20 Boots of 2003, and for generally supporting me when I was a complete unknown. Cheers!

Another tune I've forgotten to put up here is a little track based upon a piece by Brian Eno, taken from the movie 28 Days Later (shame on you if you havn't seen it yet). I added some guitar, bass and drum samples, and slung a J-Lo vocal over the top. It went down very well at GYBO - see what you think:

mixmastermac - Mere Insecurity

Also a little scratch thing I did for a laugh using the Windows sounds:

mixmastermac - Windowscratchin'

The bootleg set I premiered at the all-cool IBPW1 was recently played on Berlin's twenFM, along with sets from many other 'leggers off the board.

I'm currently in the middle of a brand new 30 min mix with all new mash-ups included, so stay tuned for that soon...

06/ 10 / 03

New 'serious' site!

Those who know me know that I've been strummin' the guitar far longer than I've been doing this bootleg lark, and managed to write a few tunes along the way. Well now I have an online outlet for it as well, so if you'd like to hear meloncholy guitar pop AND see more moody black 'n' white shots like this one, then give Stevie Mac a click. You might be glad you did...

For those who want more bootleg action, then here's an outtake from my IBPW set - Sisqo clashes with the might 'Park on Linkin Thong, and as an added bonus you can get a rockin' remix of Xtina's new single, Can't Hold Us Down, for NOWT! Bye 4 now :P

11/ 08 / 03

International Bastard Pop Weekender Mega Blowout!!

Two nights and three days of crazy Germans, even crazier Brits, non-stop dancin' to kickin' sets, strange energy drinks, bratwurst, Galaga, pool, sunshine, and one mysterious unannounced DJ in a Blockbusters shirt later...

The first International Bastard Pop Weekender was a resounding success - I had a fantastic time meeting everyone, sampling the local culture, and I think my set went down OK as well... :P

Head over to GYBO where people are already posting their incredible sets and photos of the event. Great time was had by all and we hope to do something similar in the near future. My set will be up shortly, but for now, enjoy this sampler...

DJ Sam Buca vs Bros - When Will I

30/ 07 / 03

Right, mammoth update time, for I have not one, not two, but FOUR new tunes for you lucky lucky people...

First off, for a laff I decided to post a jazzy mix of Birdland by Weather Report and Work It Out by Beyonce on the board, under the guest alias Big Cheeks Murphy. I was rumbled soon enough though, when someone thought to check the file link! Doh!

Big Cheeks Murphy - Beyonce Land

Next, the ultra-sleaziest of boots is formed when ghetto pimps N.E.R.D. hook up with Har Mar Superstar for an E-Z lap dance...

mixmastermac - EZ-Lap

Finally, over the past few days I've been getting to grips with FruityLoops, a fine electronic music creation program, it must be said. I've barely scratched the surface of what it's capable of, but so far I've produced two little tunes using it - a spidey dance cover of Radiohead's Street Spirit, and a slightly more chilled version of Justin's Like I Love You. These are courtesy of my new alias, DJ Sam Buca :)

DJ Sam Buca - Street Spirit

DJ Sam Buca & Justin Timberlake - Like I Love It Chilled

International Bastard Pop Weekender update - in addition to my half hour main DJ set, I'll be doing a 1 hour chill-out special set in room 2.

Keep 'er lit :)

23/ 07 / 03

OK, reeeeeewind...

A while ago, fellow booter PPM put out a little effort called 'Bottled Fox', which was the infamous Christina's 'Genie In A Bottle' over a mashed-up drum track comprised of Sly Fox, Falco and Led Zep.

After a few recent plays I thought it could benefit from a little patented 'm3 guitar magic' - and so it was done:

Christina vs PPM - Genie In A Bottle (m3's foxy remix)

It got PPM's seal of approval - why don't you give it a try :)

Cheers to everyone who download 'Lips They Move' last week, rocket-PROPELLING it to # 8 on the Culturedeluxe chart!

15/ 07 / 03

I'm baaaaaaaack!!!

Stuck on pay-as-you-go dial-up I'm afriad, but at least it's a connection. Now I'm officially graduated and currently unemployed, I have a lot more time to doss abou... I mean, continue my important remix work :)

Here's a new summer-tinged one for all you disco freaks out there -

Ultrasonic vs m3 - Lips They Move

Ultrasonic is a side project of top Belgian DJ 4T4, and I'd never heard the track before Magic Cornflake asked me if I'd remix it. Apparently 4T4 himself will get to hear this one... Thanks to MC for sugessting the track and hosting it on oorsmeer!

In other bootleg news, MTV's brand-spanking new remix show, MTV Mash, debuts this Saturday at 11:30pm. First video shown will be Ultra396, so tune in!

The line-up for International Bastard grows by the day! It's gonna be quite special. Now, back to learning how to use decks... :)

26/ 06 / 03

So long, and thanks for all the posts...

My time at university is up, I graduate next week (2:2, which unfortunately means I can't do a postgrad in Music Technology there), and the lease on my student accomodation is up on Monday. Meaning I'll be moving back home for a couple of months, where there is no internet connection.

I'll still be working on boots and remixes, as well as my own music, and who knows, if I find my way to the library or an internet cafe, I may be able to make the occasional update. This site will remain up til I return.

So anyway, big thanks to everyone at GYBO and BN for all the support, and I'll see you out there...

- Steve m3

P.S. I am technically unemployed now, so if anyone wants to throw any remix work my way, drop me a line at steviemac2000@hotmail.com :)

12/ 06 / 03

OK, a bit of news and a new tune.

Fisrt off, there's a new message board called Being Nobodies, dedicated to remixes, loopjams and basically new music that doesn't fall into the 'bootleg' category - this is probably where you'll see most of my stuff from now on, though if I do the odd bootleg of course it'll be on GYBO.

Also, here is a new tune - a remix of a track from fellow bootlegger Reeto von Gunten a.k.a laptoporchestra's upcoming album of poetry, Erschtunke & Erloge. This was a lot of fun to do, and it ended up being quite the summery little tune. Any resemblence to other artists is purely coincidental :)

laptoporchestra vs mixmastermac - Aui

I wasn't even going to bother posting this here, but it got such a warm reception over at BN that I relented eventually :)

Next on the cards - a special m3 remix request from oorsmeer's very own magic cornflake! Hold that thought...

- m3

08/ 06 / 03

...and lo, it did indeed come to pass that there would be another GYBO challenge, and in a shocking break from the norm, I could actually be bothereed to do something for it. :)

The Trammps vs mixmastermac - Disco Inferno (m3's indie disco remix)

Once again all drums sampled, all instruments me, 80's-tastic vocals by the Trammps. When it gets going it kinda reminds me of 'Spies' by the mighty Coldplay - make up your own mind.

The rather fantastic people at Queen's University Belfast have offered me a place in their MA in Music Technology degree next year, assuming I got a decent undergraduate result, whioh means I'll be on edge for about 2 weeks until the results come out.

Not to worry, I can combat the stress with a strict regime of Gamecube fun and much going out on the razz... :)

Other things I've been enjoying lately - 24, The Matrix Reloaded, sunshine, house-hunting, sleeping, the PVP and Penny Arcade comics, Zelda: The Wind Waker, Timesplitters 2, Pacman on my GBA, Terry Pratchett, watching Moulin Rouge to death, kebabs, the Limelight, Deftones, Matthew Good, Enterprise, lemon Fanta and general post-exam relaxation and lying about.

Hope you dig the new tune - peace out y'all

28/ 05 / 03

Praise for 'Music':

"Top. Very inspirational" - laptoporchestra

"Music is an instant all-time fave of mine" - magic cornflake

"This mix in particular is just absolutely phenomenal" - microboy

"I always thought that amateur mixes are always crap....but this one is FANTASTIC!!!" - forbidden

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, tomorrow I'll be a free man - my last exam - and I'll finally have some time to try out some of the wacky musical notions that have been floating around my head...

The Madonna remixes made the Culturedeluxe chart (Music at # 6 and Frozen at # 19) , thanks to links from oorsmeer, Bastard Pop and especially those nice people over at the Madonna Power forum.

Anyone who has been having trouble getting any tracks off the site will be pleased to know that I've doubled my monthly bandwidth allowance, so there should be no more outages in the forseeable future.

Back again soon

- m3

13/ 05 / 03

Well, the time has come... Igor, the unveiling!

- - - - - - - - - - - - Madonna vs mixmastermac - Music - - - - - - - - - - - Madonna vs mixmastermac - Frozen - - - - - - - - - - - -

All drums sampled, all instruments played by m3, vocals courtesy of one Mrs Ritchie :)

Thanks to Magic Cornflake for putting 'Music' up on oorsmeer and thanks to everyone else for... well, being patient! :P

Also, over 470 downloads of Planet Timberlake, taking it to # 8 on the culturedeluxe chart!

I'm glad I got these done before the terror of exams begins (this week) - have fun with these and I'll catch you on the rebound...

05/ 05 / 03

Back once again...

This ain't the special thing I mentioned below - that's still in planning - but I thought this would work, and funny enough, it did -

mixmastermac - Planet Timberlake

It's the ubiquitous (look it up) 'Like I Love You' in with Paul Oakenfold's reworking of Planet Rock, by Afrikka Bambatta (and the Soul Sonic Force, of course), used in the rather cracking film Swordfish. Timberlake is used almost as much as Mathers these days, but I ain't done one yet. So there :P

Well done to everyone who got on Q's Mix Week again - get ALL the tracks over at Boot106 - it's the place to be at! Beat? Geddit?

'Special thing' should be complete within the next week or so... stick with me, I promise it'll be worth it :)

Until then enjoy yet another helping of J to the T, and I'll catch ya later...

01/ 05 / 03

One month on from April's B@stard and I finally find the lead for my camera, so now I present to you...

m3's guide to Shameless Ligging

Stay tuned, I'll be back soon with something I think will be a bit special...

24/ 04 / 03

Dear me, a whole month without updates - it's really intolerable, but that's university for you. Have an interview for the chance to do an MA in Music Tech next year on the 6th May - wish me luck... In the meantime however I'll be pretty busy with exams, there will probably be no new material til the end of May...

B@stard was excellent - thanks for the T-shirt Grant! Good to meet like-minded souls and put names to faces etc. Rest assured I'll be back! I did take some photos but I've lost the cable for my digicam so I can't upload them :( Plenty of other photos at GYBO though.

Since I have nothing else new for you, here are some top quality bootlegs from other mixers that, in my opinion, you should definitely have in your collection...

In no particular order (as they're all equally fab)...

Skeelo vs Foriegner - Eye of the Tiger (Soulwax) >>>>> The Breakbeatles - Take This Brother >>>>> Soundhog - Nevermore, Craig >>>>>

Lionel Vinyl - Clock Your Body >>>>> Magic Cornflake - Like I Love Me & Madonna >>>>> IDC - U Know Y London Burns

Enjoy people and I'll be back with you when I'm a free man!!

24/ 03 / 03

Note: upon listening to it away from the computer, it seems the vocal in Pictures... was being drowned out a bit by the guitar.

I have made the necessary adjustments if any of you would care to download it again.

21/ 03 / 03

Bienvenue boot-fans... I'm not avoiding proper work, honest :) but when you've got an idea, you run with it. Since I didn't bother with the punk and ska challenges, I felt the need to be an early '60s entrant...

mixmastermac - Pictures of Gangsta Lovin'

...though to be honest there's very little '60s about it! Bass and guitar by yours truly - bonus points for spotting the 'hidden riff' :)

Also: flights are booked, there's no goin' back - watch out B@stard, m3's - a - comin'!!

20/ 03 / 03

Should really be finishing my 'project design specification' (oh the humanity), but I had this idea last nite, see...

mixmastermac - Jump Around In Da Club

Pretty self explanatory really. I plan to attempt something a bit more ambitious for the '60s challenge over at the forum, sooner or later... :)

In other m3 news: barring any unforseen circumstances, I will be making the trip & attending April's B@stard - hope to see you all there. Also got my ticket for Radiohead in May - Thom Yorke, the miserable sod, you gotta love him :)

Ah well, back to listening to Fischerspooner and eating Jaffa cakes...

17/ 03 / 03

Nah, I haven't gone away... you're not that lucky :)

Haven't had much time for mixin' it up of late; uni work can be detrimental to your creative output. Rest assured I'll be back soon enough!

Black and White isn't going away! Now linked on the rather swish looking BastardPop. Shadowblock only managed the not-quite-as-impressive #39 slot on CultureDeluxe, but cheers to everyone who downloaded it.

Also, be sure to check GYBO for the current crop of ska boots - the latest challenge, with a '60s challenge on the cards.

Well that's all for now, peace out!

04/ 03 / 03

Hey bootleg fans, back once again!

Massive response to Black Or White, shooting to #2 on the CultureDeluxe chart. Also got linked on oorsmeer - great bootleg site (if you speak Dutch that is - else ignore the words and grab those links!)

Another week, another excursion into experimental territory - this time it's DJ Shadow in the mix for something distinctly trip-hop, lending Jenny From The Block more than a hint of dark...

mixmastermac - Shadowblock

21/ 02 / 03

And now for something completely different...

Less of a bootleg this, more of a 'cover with the original vocals', a la Soulwax's Kylie and Ladytron remixes. Inclusion of 'real' instruments is becoming good bootlegging practice (see Soundhog's Shansun and GHP's Sexual High), so without further ado, I give you...

Jacko vs mixmastermac - Black or White

19/ 02 / 03

Thought a quick update would be in order...

Didn't win the GYBO challenge, but hey, the competition was tough - check out McSleazy's site to download the winner (DJ Crook Air's v. cool True Faith mix) and see details of this month's competition, where the acapella to be used is by 90's post techno bods The Shamen.

My boots are now also available at EMS, but that site is undergoing a massive revamp and will soon be moving to www.culturedeluxe.com, which should be up and running by next week.

Was my birthday on Monday there - good nite out was had by all here at casa m3! "They only want you when you're 17, when you're 21, you're no fun..."

Check back soon for some new m3 sounds... stuff 'in the pipeline' etc... whatever!

11/ 02 / 03

This one was a request by a fellow musician friend - it promised high comedy potential at the time. I'll say no more except that it involves a certain laughable UK garage 'act' and a certain blue steam engine...

mixmastermac - Choo Choo Really Like It

10/ 02 / 03

Two new tracks available:

Vodka vs. System F - Do It Tomorrow (mixmastermac rmx) - my entry into McSleazy's compo

Sparky C - Jay Breathes Ice - a rather decent boot by a mate of mine

05/ 02 / 03

Over at the forum McSleazy has set up the first GYBO competition - the challenge is to create a bootleg using an acapella from (unknown to me) Glaswegian band Vodka. I've made a little something for it - will probably put it up here once the results are in on Feb 9th.

welcome to mixmastermac.co.uk!

03 / 02 / 03

I've been putting it off for a long time now, but it's finally here!  After a while pottering about the GYBO board and seeing the many other wonderful sites people have, I've taken it upon myself to go steal some thunder :)

Be sure to check out the Flash player to hear the goods, and also the many links to bootleggers' sites round the world (well, Scotland... :-)
